| Whilst I do wonder if a little collection of drill sized holes would work - I also wonder if anyone has any experience of the Puig screen. This again appears to have no 'holes' so presumably still causes back pressure. |

Shakey didn't like the PUIG screen.....
Interestingly, my Givi screen has no holes but I don't get any back pressure at all. It may be because I have raked it back about 5 degrees (thus producing a "hole" underneath). It has also stopped whistling. _________________ 07 Farkles:

Alan
Is the Givi screen taller/wider than standard on '03 bike?
Guess, I shouldn't be lazy and look myself!

I don't know. I have the '06 bike. On that it (I think) slightly narrower but about 3" taller.

I've got one on the way from Calsci for my 06FJR. The flip that I bought earlier in the year at the BMF from Sidmarx, for a trip to Switzerland gives buffeting and noise at motorway speeds so I'm hoping the Calsci screen will be a better solution.
I'll let you know when it arrives if everything's ok with shipping, fitting etc..etc...

Rabbit
Thanks for that - Pierre's website is truly wonderful. However he does not mention back pressure, so maybe I'll ask him directly as he certainly has 'done the miles'. Interestingly, I looked on the Givi website for it late last night (maybe too late!) and could not see a listing for it. |

I too have a Cal Sci Tall windshield for my 06. It did cut down the wind and noise nicely. However, I switched over to the current MPG indicator when fully engaged and noticed that it reduces mileage by 10 MPG! It was amazing to watch the efficiency go up and down as I raised and lowered the windshield. I expected a couple MPG loss, but not 10.
I never thought to check what happens to the mileage on a stock shield. So, I don't have a comparison.
Just something to think about. It seems there's always a price to pay beyond the price tag. |

had an excellent experience in dealing with mark at Cal Sci
I find that the tall shield is the best for me .
I have also tried the cee baily tall .
This subject has been discussed many times. Here is my post from August of 06
I have ordered and recieved the Cee Baily +4 +4 Tested it for 300 miles
I also have recieved the CalSci Tall and tested it for 500 miles with various vent configurations modified by test cardbord blockers of various sizes ranging from blocking 25% of the Vent to completley Blocking the vent.
I am 5ft 8 and 1/2 inches tall 31inch inseam.
My Impressions.
1. The Cee Baily is of excelent quality and does an adequate job of wind protection and noise and turbulence reduction
Very slight interference with my larger Euro Factory Yamaha Touring Mirrors part #5VS-W0748-XX-00 ("fjr 1300 Knuckle Visor Set")
Overall rating 7 out of 10 for the Cee Bailey +4 +4
2.The CalSci Tall as shipped has too large of a vent and allows a laminar column of air to hit you in the chest as well as bugs and rain .
The vent also is noisy.
The 2006 has enough venting in the fairing to equalize any back pressure issues! I think that the vent is probably a good Idea for 2003- 2005 bikes but not the 06.
I found that the best performance was with the vent coverd completly and the the 75% covering of the vent was the next best.
I made a plexiglass vent cover out of a piece of old aircraft windshied and mounted it with three #6 screws and nylon washer sandwich and drilled and located them on the top side of the vent , one in the middle and one on the right and left sides. ( be sure to use a special drill bit for plastic if you do this)
It turned out to look rather nice and the performance is 10/10.
I did have to grind two notches in the shield to make it clear my euro touring mirrors.
I have spoken to Mark Lawrence at CalSci,who is really a great guy ,
and he is sending me a new shield without a vent .
He also is going to offer a convertible shield with a removable vent cover.
Mark will do an excellent job
His design shape is perfect match for the 2006 FJR .
Overal rating 10 out of 10 for the Ventless model.
