I recieved my Cal Sci "Tall" windshield Friday, installed it yesterday and went for a morning ride today (100 Mi) at speeds averaging 80 MPH to 110 mhh....The windshield exceeded my expectations. It was perfect in everyway. All the way down, the wind hit me at neck level, all the way up and it was perfectly quiet...even made a phone call to my wife doing 90 mph coming home down the freeway. The call was crystal clear with NO WIND noise.. WIth it up you can still see over the windshield or if you want to slouch a little, you can look thru it. A big plus if you hit stretch of love bugs, much less a down poor....
I guess I was intimidated by the word TALL.....thinking it would be 6' high, but when I measured it, it was only around 3" higher...which is absolutely pefect.
All is good..... |

Well, I have an 06 and I don't know if there's a difference vs the 05s, but the point was the Cal Sci "Tall" just isn't a massive windshield...as a matter of fact I was concerned at first cause of the little in difference in size between it and the stock one. And yea, it's a couple of 3 inches higher and a couple of inches wider too I'd guess..
The guy at Cal Sci knows all the answers to your questions though...talking to him vs the others was like talking to Enstein vs the 3 stooges..He is very helpful. |

| I'm 6'.....another 2" shouldn't be a big deal, but I highly suggest you call Cal Sci and talk with Mark about your specific riding habits, the part of the country your in, and what your looking for in a windshield...The Ph # is 530-274-2714. |

Rabbit1300 - I guess you can't sleep either!
I see the screen has an opening in the front - presumably to erradicate that annoying vacuum created behind the standard item. Is their screen the only one to feature that? |

If you message me your email address I'll send you some pics as I have no idea how to post them in there...nor did I order it over the internet...I talked directly with Mark at Cal Sci and after discusing my size, the weather, etc he made the decision as to what I'd be happiest with..And he was right on......The Ph # for Cal Sci is 530-274-2714. |

@CarMan -
Yes, the holes DO releave the vacuum pressure on the back - it does actually work. Other owners have imitated this with standard screens and once again, it does work. There are threads on this somewhere.
As far as I can remember, this is the only aftermarket screen with this modification. I believe Givi's flip screen goes some way to achieving this also. |

| Perhaps we could organise a group buy to reduce the shipping cost? On the other hand, perhaps it is possible to effectively cut the Fudge tall screen to achieve the same effect? It would be a big advantage, to me at least |

Just curious, do you ride with the seat in the high or in the low position? I have the same height as you and find the seat position might affect that cutoff location, so knowing which position your seat was in while experiencing these results would be great. thx in advance. _________________ 06 FJR1300A

My seat is in the High Position, as I need as much leg room as possible. Like I posted before, Mark @ Cal Sci sent out several windshields to FJR owners to field test.....27 modifications later, they all give him the thumbs up......This isn't any big secret as the reason I bought it was 2 fold...1st everyone seemed to point to Cal Sci and being the last windshield they'l ever purchase, yea everyone was that happy with them.....and I mean I couldn't anyone wh had ONE NEGATIVE thing to say about the windshield....And those that recommended others, never had owned a Cal Sci......Then when I talked to him, I could tell he was knowledgable and sincere and the windshields he produces...Yea, he the chief designer, the chief laser cutter, and even design the machine he uses to laser cut the windshields with cause he was unhappy with the quality of the machines he found. This guy is a real perfectionist...thus his windshields are PERFECT. In my and most other's opinion anyway....
Please understand though, I have factory built in speakers & mic in my Arai Profile helmet (J&M Electronics) so it's a very quiet helmet anyway..If you think just putting a Cal Sci windshield on your bike and will mean you can go without a helmet and while cruising 90 mph enable you to open your flip phone up and put it to your ear and be able to carry on a conversation with someone, I've got a bridge I'll sell ya real cheap.
This is all I have to say about that... |
