Long story short.....
I've had the AE about a year, trouble free. The other day when I rode which was the coldest day so far....9 degrees F, after a 10 mile hwy run as I was at a stop light then SH 48 shows up. I cycled the key and it went away. When leaving work that same day it happened 2 more times in the parking lot and one more time at the first red light. I opted to not turn on the hand shift and rode all the way home w/o issue using the foot shift.
Next day{today} the temps were up to about 35F so I took a chance and rode to a friends house a few miles away. The trip was trouble free along with a beer run from and back to his house. After I got home I went inside for about 15 minutes then went back out to move the bike into the garage. As soon as I tried to put it in gear to code came back up.
My idle appears to be good around 1100 so maybe that's not the problem. The other part of the code according to the FSM is a defective fast idle unit which requires replacing the throttle bodies......OUCH!
My local dealer sucks badly and I honestly don't trust them with the YCCS system so I would like to trouble shoot this myself.
How many that have had SH 48 have had to replace their throttle bodies? _________________ '06 AE |

Not seen that error on my 2006AE. As you seem to be aware, the manual says that SH__48 is "Improper engine idling speed adjustment," and the fixes are 1) Check/adjust engine idling speed and 2) Defective fast idle unit, replace the throttle bodies.
I take it you're out-of-warranty and don't have Y.E.S.
As of last week, I'd found a salvage shop with a 2007 FJRA that was being parted out. IF you decide to replace your TBs, and need to pay for them yourself, and assuming the TBs are the same for all Gen IIs, I'd be glad to pick up the TBs from the salvage yard and send them to you. They usually charge half of new. _________________ Everybody wants to go to heaven; nobody wants to die. |

After seeing the postings on FJR Forum and my own experience it seems like cold weather may be a factor (hoping the TBs don't have to be replaced). I've had mine since new & this was the first year that happened, also the coldest in Atlanta. I parked it & have been riding the wife's bike, guess its time to try the FJR again as the weather has been above the teens.
Curious to see if this goes away once warmer weather sets in. |

Do you know how to check/adjust your engine idle speed?
Riding my FZ1 in freezing temps has seen the idle settings going all over the place... which is not as critical a problem with the hand-operated clutch, as it would be in a system like yours, where the clutch engagement is determined by engine speed. _________________ Brake less, lean more. |

Mine happens in warm weather. Common denominator seems to be idle speed. _________________ Everybody wants to go to heaven; nobody wants to die. |
