At least Yamaha let the FJR have a couple of years as a (relatively speaking) lightweight bike, before starting to pile on the gizmos and additional weight.
Honda seem to be adding all the weight right from the word go
And I know I've got to bow to the inevitable and get measured for some glasses, but am I the only one who when they first saw the PR photos (without knowing it was a honda) thought the round badge on the side of the fairing was the Bavarian propellor logo? |

I don't need to mention that I think power shift gizmos are for sissies...
but Honda's dual clutch gizmo is head, shoulders, asses and elbows above Yamaha's mousetrap-like YCCS system.
On the new Viffer from Team Honda, I wish we could have a friggin article or two to find out if the rest of the bike is worth a crap, before we start talking about the geriatric options available. It'd be like hearing that BMW came out with a breakthrough 2-wheel drive bike, but all the press was about the new-improved ass warmer in the seat.
... jus' sayin'

I think Liquid is just making a sarcastic point Dave.
I thought the DN01 was suppose to have the best trans, now Honda make a duel clutch which give you the best of both worlds. and do we need it? _________________ 4 wheels moves the Body

Good point Woody & the answer is NO its just another sales gimmick.
We are all competent riders & if people can't cope with the standard setup maybe they shouldnt be riding a bike.
All this technology is fine for a race track but do we really need it ?? I think not.
Give me a clutch & a gear change & let me play how I want to _________________ God never made half a day & a bird never flew on one wing |

I'm with you Murf.
They still seem to be pitching the auto gearbox/auto clutch at stop start city type riding, but to me it looks like a very complicated solution to a problem that doesn't really exist
Two things spring to mind
A) Wouldn't have thought that city centre streets are really the VFR's target environment and
B) isn't stop start traffic why they invented the competitive sport of filtering? |

It doesn't seem to be getting great early reviews. It only gets around 160 miles on a tank of gas. Not a great touring range. I'm not sure what the weight is and I'm too lazy too look it up, but the 180 ponies sounds more than adequate.
Now about that new Ducati Multistrada 1200 4 in 1 bike. |

You HAVE to ride it. It is mindblowing the way the torque comes in.

[Yes, I have ridden it - no I will not be swapping my FJR for it - maybe an additional bike if I can afford it] _________________ 07 Farkles:

It weighs a bit less than a Gen II FJR without bags but is apparently MUCH quicker. The full test in the new issue of Cycle World has has it running a 10.33 1/4 mile at over 134 mph. Fuel range is more like a sportbike than an S/T though. Still, looks like a very nice bike. The reviews I've read of the full auto tranny give it lots of praise, they say it even works well at a racetrack. Not cheap at $15,900 US. |

I saw one for the 1st time at the WSBK expo at Phillip Island yesterday....why can't Honda build a good looking bike anymore ? This thing is as ugly as the Predator in the 1980's Arnie movie. It looks beautifully made, great attention to detail, small panniers though, but it makes the front of the ST1300 look like a thing of beauty...which it aint.
Don't 'they' get the aesthetic issues involved in a motorcycle purchase ? |

My local Honda dealer has now got the demonstrator. Popped in today & i have to say the build quality is superb ( Take note Mr Yamaha ) The riding position felt really nice bit like the Blackbird but more compact. I personally think its too sports orientated & would not suit me as a touring bike.( But thats probably an age thing) My wife certainly would not like the pillion seat.
I rather think Honda have slightly missed the mark. Superb bike but i think not for serious 2 up fast touring. _________________ God never made half a day & a bird never flew on one wing |
