Anyone know of a good forum for the FZ6? I'm having the darndest time getting the shifting pattern right on the little guy. It is driving me nuts and I don't want to hurt the clutch too much I know that someone here said that 7k was a good shifting range and that works to some degree. I figured that after a 1000 miles I would have settled into the pattern, but not yet. Figure that some of the FZ6 owners might be able to help. I have found that the FZ really performs well above 7K and awesome at about 10K......and I still have 4K left ! Is that high pitch kind of indy car sound normal? It does sound cool, I must admit....... Having the FZ6 actually did help me to shift the FJR better because I got into the habit of waiting for higher RPM before shifting. You really do have to shift the FJR like a sport bike for sure. Boof |

You mean there is really a spot that you should shift..... Oh no back to the drawning board! That is something that I have to get used to... The FJR does NOT like to be lug.... |

I dunno, mine lugs fairly well. However, it does like to be shifted at 3800 + rpms. |

I posted this UK site back in April on another thread on the fz6 for someone. As the fazer (fz6) has been around in various forms here in the UK for a few years try these guys, I was a member when I had mine. They maybe some use or not. http://pub32.ezboard.com/bfazerowners http://www.foc-u.co.uk/ |

Boof, I also have the new FZ-6(my girl friend purchased it in late April)and find the shifting notchy. Had it hang up a couple of times between gears and then bang in. Just hoping nothing was damaged. Got over 500 miles on it now and it seems to be getting better. I shift between 4K and 6K. Seems to shift better when you are accelerating aggressively. Love the handling of the bike. Much lighter than my FJR. I've noticed lots of buzz in the grips at highway speeds. I'm going to try to dampen the vibes with a Bar Snake. Are you happy with yours? |

Howdy Lenn, welcome to the board . Funny you should mention the girlfriend thing, because this is going to be her bike (MY girlfriends that is, not yours ). It is a little tall for her and I have to lower it a bit and am still trying to figure how to pull that off. It is a great bike for her because it is not aggresive on the low end (at all) but has some great top end when she is experienced enough to use it. I love the little FZ6. I totally agree with your shifting analysis. I started to ride it "aggresively" and she started to smooth out a bit, but I still clunk it at lower speeds. I simply cringe every time I clunk it, makes me feel like a rookie again. Problem with riding it aggresively is that I'm hitting about 60mph by the time I am ready for 3rd gear ! That does not work too well in some situations in the city. I do find myself shifting it a bit more than I would like, but all in all it was the right bike to purchase. I could have gotten the Suzuki 650 as I think it has a better overall power curve, but to me it was uuuugly. They all have quirks of some kind I suspect. The handling on the FZ is awesome. I have to be careful when I get back on the FJR, you can REALLY feel the difference in the front end handling between the two bikes. Conversley, you can REALLY feel the power band difference in between the two bikes as well. The FJR does not have a "bad" spot in the power band, it just has the POWER ON DEMAND feature. The FZ's low end performance is weak, but boy, when you hit about 8K, lookout because the slingshot effect accelerates you to warp speed. I've had her up to about 142 and that was enough for me, she felt stabel enough but not like the Rock of Gibralter FJR at 150mph. I find the bike absolutley buzzless up to about 60mph. But once the RPM's hit around 6500-7000 the buzz is obvious. What is a bar snake ? I might try it??? |

You can also try the FZ6 sub-forum on www.sportbikes.net. My wife is a member there (she rides an FZ6) and has stated it is quite a busy forum.

Boof, Thanks for the reply. My girlfriend is 5'5" and also had trouble reaching the ground because of the seat height. It's even high for me and I'm 6'! What I did was adjust the rear shock preload to it's softest setting. Because the spring is very stiff to begin with, it rides much better now even with my 225 lbs butt on it. I also sucked up the fork tubes an inch in the triple clamps. Now she can reach almost flat footed. I'm waiting for someone to come out with a slightly shorter rear spring. Once it's available, I'll install it. I've heard that the seat height on the FZ6 is an issue with a lot of riders and I'm sure some aftermarket company will come out with a solution. Go to http://www.holeshot.com/barsnake/ to learn about the Bar Snake. I'm going to order one soon and will let you know how it works. I'm also going to order a Power Commander. I'm sure there's room for improvement in the EFI department just like on the FJR. I'm very happy with my PC on my FJR. Huge improvement! I brought the FZ-6 to my local Dragway recently. I could only managed to squeeze a 12.3 out of it. My FJR does consistant 11.20's @ 122 mph. Your right, the FZ-6 just doesn't have the thrust down low that the FJR has. But it will carve circles around it in the handling dept. I also noticed that it has the exact same size rubber on it as our bikes do. Huge tires for such a small bike! |

I concur with you guys about the notchy gears. I bought the new FZ6 a few weeks ago (still have the FJR) I love the styling and handling. One thing I noticed was not only the notchy gears, but the occasional jamming when shifting down (by that I mean it sometimes will shift down from top to fourth then not go down into third, second or lower. Thinking about getting a belly pan for mine too. As far as value for money (and fun) you can't beat the FZ6 I would never get rid of the FJR all the same. |
