I have a set of BT014's on my bike that I need to wear out before next week, when I have my bike serviced prior to the ride to the MotoGP. I am planning a Boys Day Out on Saturday - early start, probably include Boonah area, or maybe even a quick run to Tenterfield and back. Just posted for info if anyone else has tyres they need to shred. |

@ David. I can't make your ride, but I'd be interested in your thoughts on the BT-014's. How have they compared with other brands for wear & handling etc. I'll look out for you down the Island - I'll be there on the Sunday on my black beauty too. |

Gainsi - can't make the ride! If you left tomorrow you'd be here in plenty of time I really like the 014's. I had Metz as original - did NOT like them, BT020's fine, good tyre (10,000k's per rear; 13,000k's per front). 014's I get around 6,000k's per rear and 8 to 10,000k's per front. |

@ David. Not trying to hijack your thread, but would you say the handling of the BT014's was better than the BT020's, or just that they warmed up quicker & were then similar ? I had MEZ4 as OEM & have tried BT020's as 2nd set of tyres. Been good for close to 13,000kms front & rear. I appreciate your info & hope the weekend ride is good. I'll be making do with a visit to the Melbourne bike expo at Jeff's shed. |

I never got past the limit on the 020's, and don't even come close on the 014's. The 014's are definitely stickier, at all temps, and while I wouldn't say that the handling is noticably better for everyday riding (everyday riding is probably at way less than 50% of either the bikes or my capabilities), when pushing hard it is better. Also has more 'brag' factor when you stop and road gravel sticks to the rubber - makes it look like they were pushed hard, really hot, really sticky, etc. Having said that, though, and thinking through some things - I have a lot of 120 to 180-degree mid-speed sweepers just up the road from home, and the feel of the front 014 into these corners is very confidence-inspiring. Definitely better than the 020's. In all honesty, I don't need the 014's, but I like them. I'm trying the Avons next, just because they have received many good reports (life and grip) but I'm a bit concerned about the negative comments too (shimmy, much more weight taken to balance them). Also, I can't justify wearing out my 014's on the trip to and from Melbourne - looking at the roads we will be riding I know I would find the 'private road' switch, and would end up needing a new set in Melbourne. Both my regular tyre supplier and servicing dealer were not enthusiastic about the Avons. Both love me on 014's - but I think it's because they sell me more tyres that way. |

Thanks for the feedback, David. The BT014's sound good. I too had considered Avons but am a little concerned about some of the -ve 'waves'. I'll price the 3 types & go from there, but I'd love to ride the Gt Ocean Road on new BT014's....!! |

@ David. I bit the bullet & got BT-014's fitted this week. I weigh about 95kg suited up & mainly ride solo. What pressures did you run your 014's at & what mileage did you get out of the set ? I'd also be interested in your thoughts on the new Avons, even though I realise it is still early days. Cheers, Ian. |

Gainsi - BT014's - about 6000k's from the first rear, then 5000 from the next, but I had a lot of fun with this one. The front went quite a bit longer. I usually get two fronts to three rears, no matter what tyre I am on. You will enjoy the 014's, but make sure you use the edges and not just the middle strip. I ran 42/42 when 2-up, and 40/40 when solo. Avons fine so far, but only 300k's (no riding this week - away in Melbourne) |

Cheers David. I scrubbed the BT014's in yesterday & they feel superb. Looking forward to a summer of twisties including the Great Ocean Road several times in the Xmas holidays. May see you at the Island. Are you going to the Tribe Stars Dinner in Cowes on the Friday night ? If so, I'll see you there. Have a safe ride down. |
